Tipo de Atividade: In phthalocyanine compounds, conjugated system with delocalized electronic structure throughout the macrocycle facilitates light absorption in the visible region of electromagnetic radiation. Also, they have strong thermal and chemical stability. So, these phthalocyanine derivatives are known for their applications in the fields of photovoltaic cells, gas sensors, liquid crystals, semiconductor devices, electro-photography, molecular electronics, electro catalytic reagents, nonlinear optics, photosensitizing agents in PDT and other medical applications and also in opto-electronics, electronics, and photonics. Generally, sensing materials can be categorized into three groups - organic, inorganic, and biological materials. Inorganic sensing materials include metals, metal oxides, semiconductors and nano-crystals and organic sensing materials include phthalocyanines, conjugated polymers and polymer/reagent compositions. Metal Phthalocyanines (MPcs) can act as sensing materials for a large number of analytes, since they have extended conjugation and variable oxidation states. These sensors employ redox reactions for qualitative and quantitative estimation of the analyte. The current flowing through the system or the potential difference between the electrodes as a result of the oxidation and reduction reactions involving the analyte are used for the quantification of sample. The desired functionality of the molecules and their sensing properties can be achieved by introducing different substituents in the phthalocyanine ring or changing the central metal atom. Specifically, they can be used as sensors for the detection of bio active molecules, toxic organic molecules, pollutants, as well as volatile organic compounds. The work of the intern will involve synthesis of a new novel phthalocyanines complex in nanoscale and sensing applications of the synthesized compound.
