Tipo de Atividade: The scope of the work of the trainee will be the performance of experiments on the field of in-situ luminescence analysis of coordination sensors (ILACS, This technique has been recently developed at the University of Kiel and aims to study the mechanism of chemical reactions. In principle, within the ILACS approach, emissive ions like the ones of lanthanides and transition metals are incorporated to the studied materials during synthesis. Then, structural changes during the synthesis process can be detected due to the influence of the coordination environment on the spectroscopic properties of these ions by means of in-situ luminescence measurements under real reaction conditions. Besides showing high time resolution and being available at simple university laboratories, this technique is able to analyze ions in solution or amorphous phases, consisting therefore of a very valuable complementing technique to synchrotron-based characterization methods such as X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. The research project will be developed independently by the student, under advisement of Dr. Huayna Terraschke. It is very important that the student additionally contribute to the project with her/his own ideas.
