Tipo de Atividade: The internship will be performed at the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz in the Faculty of Physics, mathematics and Informatics at the Institute of Physics. The student is offered practical training at the bench within our small international research group "Experimental Soft Matter Physics". (for more information have a look at http://kolloid.physik.uni-mainz.de/) Our research interest is in using colloidal model systems to explore the details of phase transitions (crystallization, glass transition, demixing, melting) and transport phenomena in external fields (sedimentation, shear, electric fields, concentration gradients). Such properties have enormous influence on material performance and technical processing. Systems are investigated by custom made optical experiments, like light scattering and microscopy of different variants. The group also performs instrumental development and is leading in SH-DLS. Students will be given a well defined project suitably adapted to their level of knowledge and (where possible) to their personal interests and career aspects. They are trained in one or two selected techniques by a supervisor and led perform reliable measurements of system properties. Good command of English is essential for scientific and social communication. If suitable, students will participate in front level research and involved in ongoing projects taking first steps in own responsability. A typical frame for a successful training is three or four months. Supervision can be continued also into 2020. For supervising reasons, start and end date should avoid the period of 1.6.-15.8 and from 15.12 to 7.1.2020
