Depending on the qualifications theoretical experimental work will be carried out. Theoretical
work can be CFD simulations, Aspen simulations, programming. Experimental work can be
performed on one of the 20 lab-scale setups and two pilot plant units of the Laboratory for
Chemical Technology (LCT). The LCT is a unit within the Department of Chemical Engineering
(IR12) (http://www.lct.ugent.be), Faculty of Engineering, of Ghent University.
Chemical reaction engineering heterogeneous catalysis in general and, in particular, the kinetics
of chemical reactions are major axes of the research in this Laboratory. One fifth of the funding is
linked to industrial collaborations. Optimization of existing industrial processes and development,
intensification and scale-up of novel technologies aimed at minimizing waste streams and energy
consumption are the major application domains of the research at the LCT. Heterogeneously
catalyzed processes as well as free radical polymerization and thermal processes (biomass fast
pyrolysis, steam cracking, oxidation) are investigated
